"The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership" is a leadership self-help book. It tries to quantify the traits that a leader possesses or should possess and defends its validity through personal anecdotes of the author as well as examples of other public figures in leadership positions, some a little dated at this point.

I don't read much self-help books, so I don't know how to rate this particular book in the perspective of a self-help book. Though, my gut feeling tells me that this is a decent book that will provide an interested reader with various stories about leadership as well as some guidance.

However, regarding the placement of the content ("teachings") of this book in a church/Christian setting, I will just say it with one question. Would you say that the church's recent near-unanimous vote to agree to proceed with the Vision Center a product of God's miraculous guidance or a product of brilliant leadership?

The book will say that it is a product of a combination of several of the quantified "laws" in action.

While I do not doubt that (and so much credit goes to the church leadership indeed), and God can definitely make use of secular processes (ie. the answer to the above can be "both"), something about associating the church with these quantified "laws" just rubs the wrong way.

Maybe it's also due to how more exposed secular leadership has been managing and leading corporations nowadays (layoffs, etc.; also understand that the book mentions Jack Welch, the previous CEO of GE in several example of great leadership), but I personally hope that how the church is led can be clearly differentiated from how corporations are managed.

I apologize for the negative vibes, but I do believe this is the most objective output I've given about this book so far.
